What was an SHPEP Ambassador?
An SHPEP Ambassador was a former program participant who volunteered to promote SHPEP and help connect eligible students with information about the program. Ambassadors shared their experiences, encouraged prospective applicants to explore SHPEP, and helped expand awareness of the program on their campuses and within their communities.
What did SHPEP Ambassadors do?
SHPEP Ambassadors were expected to recruit eligible applicants using promotional materials provided by the National Program Office by:
- Hosting or participating in campus outreach activities
- Sharing information about SHPEP with prehealth advisors, faculty, and other college and university staff
- Speaking with prospective students about their experiences as SHPEP participants
Ambassador Recognition and Incentives
Serving as an SHPEP Ambassador provided opportunities to develop professional skills, including public speaking, communication, leadership, and networking. Ambassadors who fulfilled the program’s expectations received a certificate of service from the National Program Office.
Each year, the top five ambassadors based on student recruitment received a financial award to help offset expenses related to a health professions conference, graduate exam preparation courses, or other educational expenses.
The SHPEP Ambassador program reflected the program’s commitment to alumni leadership and peer-to-peer outreach, with former scholars helping future students learn about the opportunities SHPEP provided.
