The Rubens J. Pamies, MD, Opportunity Fund Scholarship Application Now Open! Apply Here!

March 1 @ 8:00 am - April 1 @ 11:59 pm

  • « 31st Annual Stanford University Minority Medical Alliance (SUMMA) Conference

The SHPEP National Alumni Advisory Board is proud to announce the Fifth Annual Rubens J. Pamies, MD Opportunity Fund Scholarship application will open on Tuesday, March 1, 2022. The deadline for submissions is Friday, April 1, 2022, at 11:59 p.m. EST, and winners will be notified by Thursday, May 4, 2022.

The SHPEP National Alumni Advisory Board established the scholarship in memory of the late Dr. Pamies who was deeply committed to eradicating health disparities. He served as a mentor and role model for many who participated in the program, and his tireless efforts helped to widen the pipeline for underrepresented minorities seeking to enter healthcare professions.

Every year, four (4) outstanding applicants are selected to receive a scholarship award of $500 from the scholarship fund to offset the costs of applying to professional and graduate schools.  Awardees can use the funds for expenses including but limited to:

  • Application fees
  • Admission test preparation courses (e.g. MCAT, DAT)
  • Travel expenses for interviews
  • Examination fees

To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must be an alumnus of the program (SHPEP, SMDEP, SMEP, or MMEP) and in the process of applying to a health professions school.

Applicants will be evaluated based on demonstrated commitment to eliminating health disparities, past achievements, and financial need. Applicants are encouraged to share highlights from their personal and academic journey, and how winning the scholarship will assist them in achieving their education and career goals.

Lastly, your support of this scholarship fund plays a vital role in providing financial assistance to those who have demonstrated financial need, and it is genuinely appreciated. Every dollar given is another door of opportunity opened for future healthcare professionals.
