SMDEP Expanding to Include Other Health Professions
June 21, 2016 - August 22, 2016
The Summer Medical and Dental Education Program (SMDEP) provides college students interested in health careers the opportunity for a transformative summer experience. The program has been shaping careers and changing lives of premedical and predental college students for 27 years. Starting in summer 2017, SMDEP will expand to include students interested in pursuing other health careers, such as nursing, pharmacy, and public health.
Why is SMDEP expanding to include other health professions?
As the nation’s largest philanthropy focused on improving health and health care, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation is striving to build a national Culture of Health (www.cultureofhealth.org) that will enable all to live longer, healthier lives now and for generations to come. The Foundation recognized that aspiring health professionals are poised to be tomorrow’s change leaders in helping build a Culture of Health in their communities and the nation. To bring about meaningful change, health professionals must know how to learn and work together across disciplines.
Applications for the 2017 summer program will be accepted starting November 1, 2016. Participating program sites will be announced October 2016.
