We are excited to announce the next iteration of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) Summer Medical and Dental Education Program (SMDEP) and a formal Call for Proposals (CFP) for new program sites. New this year, the SMDEP program will be launching an Interprofessional Pilot, expanding eligibility to broadening beyond medicine and dentistry. The SMDEP program is a free, summer enrichment program to strengthen the academic proficiency and career development opportunities for rising sophomore and junior college students interested in pursuing a health care career.
This new approach supports the Foundation’s commitment to build a national Culture of Health and to promote interprofessional collaboration. Applicants should include: 1) a school of medicine, 2) a school of dentistry; and 3) at least one other health profession program/school from the Interprofessional Education Collaborative. All accredited medical and dental schools are eligible to apply, along with an accredited health professions school.
The Association of American Medical Colleges and the American Dental Education Association jointly serve as the National Program Office for the SMDEP program, providing technical assistance and direction.
